My father has been tracing our family history for quite a few years; I have just joined in the fun within the last year. He has built out our tree back to the Revolutionary War on both sides. I have been working on augmenting the branches and leaves.
This site is meant to cover the different lines of my Grandfather's and Grandmother's side of the family.
Gilbert GILLESPIE
My Grandfather was Gilbert McClung Gillespie. He was born in Lexington, Virginia in 1914 and died in Bedford, Virginia in 2003. He was a loving and colorful character. My father was named for him.
His parents were Wyatt Paul GILLESPIE, of Virginia (1865-1941), and Laura Cecile DONALD, also of Virginia (1877-1964). Wyatt's parents were Jeremiah GILLESPIE of Virginia (apprx. 1826-1890) and Mary GILLESPIE of Virginia (apprx 1826-?). Jeremiah and Mary were first cousins, which makes that branch of the tree a single one. Laura's parents were James Calvin DONALD of Virginia (1836-1899) and Elizabeth Jane WALLACE of Virginia (1844-1910). Elizabeth's mother was a CASH.
Anne "Judy" Irene FEAZELL
My Grandmother was Anne Irene FEAZELL She was born in Marion, Virginia in 1917 and died in Rabun Gap, Georgia in 1983. She was one of the most loving people I have ever known. I was named for her.
My grandmother was known as Judy. The story I've been told is that her brother was watching a Punch and Judy puppet show, picked up on the name Judy, and begin calling her that. She's was known by that name from then on.
Her parents were Adam Franklin FEAZELL (1887-1947) and Clara Ellen HASH (1889-1948), both from Virginia. Adam's parents were John Draper FEAZELL (1861-1939) and Idella Josephine SNAVELY (1866-1942), also from Virginia. Clara's parents were Welden HASH and Sarah KITCHEN, also from Virginia. Both were born in 1866. I am unsure of when they died.
Gilbert and Anne were married in Lexington, Rockbridge, Virginia on 14 Jun 1935
Virginia
Our family have been Virginians from the early 1700's and possibly before. I believe that on my grandfather's side of the family, they were Scotch-Irish. On my grandmother's side, the name Feazell is German, and I am not sure about the Hash side of the family.
